This book has been published now for over 50 years, selling millions of copies. This edition has over 900 recipes and nearly 600 pages.
It's sub title is 'The Cooks Classic Companion' and it certainly lives up to this, it is the sort of book that would be welcome in most kitchens. Either as an addition to an existing collection or as the start of a new one. As well as the recipes there are lots of hints and suggestions to help you get the most from your cooking. Listed below are some of the recipe titles from this book:
Chicken Liver Pate with Pistachios a selection from the starters can be found on page 70
Spicy Prawns with Spinach and Coconut from the shellfish section and is to be found on page 92
Navarin of Monkfish with Spring Vegetables, always a nice fleshy fish a little expensive but with little or no waste, this dish can be found in the fish section on page 110
Braised Lamb Shanks, lamb is one of the most under appreciated of meats, but this dish from the meat section, will help people realise just how versatile a meat it is. Recipe for this is on page 162.
From poultry and game we have picked Maple-Glazed Chicken Wings with Sweetcorn.
Another nice looking and very tasty dish, which you can find on page 197
From the desserts, Individual Hot Chocolate Souffles, another nice but perhaps not kind to the waistline dish, which is found on page 400.
Lastly how about a nice children's birthday cake this is called 'Birthday Bear' and is on page 500, there is a really nice picture of the finished cake.
Good Housekeeping New Aga Cookbook

Designed for all oven range users, not just Aga's, all recipes can be cooked in conventional ovens. This book was completely revised and updated in 1999.
As always with the Good Housekeeping Institute all recipes are researched, cooked, as well as calorie counted. Presumably they also taste them as well.

A book from the Good Housekeeping Institute designed to help the user get the best results from their microwave. All the recipes have been written or adapted for microwave cookery.
Including the following.
Like Lime and Honey Poached Salmon (on page 34) a nice dish especially for those spring and summer evenings.
Oriental Pork Escalopes (on page 48) these do need to be marinated in advance to get the best result.
Vegetable Lasagne (on page 59) another variation on the traditional lasagne easily prepared and cooked in the microwave.
Smoked Salmon Scramble (on page 70) this one is an up market variation of scrambled egg, one thing I can vouch for is the ease of scrambling eggs in a microwave, this dish looks really good on a plate.
Bread and Butter Pudding (on page86) put this down to show that you can cook almost anything in a microwave, although you might like to use a browner or a grill to finish of this dish.

Researched with the normal Good Housekeeping Institute thoroughness, which means all recipes are tried and tested, or to be completely correct cooked then eaten. Only if they pass a taste and clarity of instructions for preparation will they be allowed into any Good Housekeeping book.
