Das Sreedharan is a restaurant owner, who opened his first Rasa restaurant in 1994, he now has three restaurants, their menu's are based on the food from the Kerala region of southern India.

He has tried to get back to basics and create an authentic Indian gastronomic experience, rather than the rather bland and indistinguishable fare available from many local curry houses.

A nice book which lives up to its title, there are over 130 recipes all of which are easy to prepare and cook. So if you like Indian food but were always wary of trying to cook it at home this is probably the book for you.

Probably the best known Indian Cookery Author, this book contains many of Madhur Jaffrey's family recipes. As you would expect it is well written and presented, most of the ingredients are readily available in supermarkets and many greengrocers sell suitable fresh produce, so it should no longer be a problem for most people to produce these recipes. Perhaps if you live on a remote island, you might need to open a postal account with a specialist food supplier.

Why not try some of the following dishes.

Page 17, Dal Soup. This is an Indian version of a split pea soup

Page 41, Codfish Steaks in Yoghurt.

Page 94, Duck Stuffed and Roasted, the stuffing has rice, spices, raisins and nuts.
